Zeche Kamp L is a coal mine connected with several other mines nearby. Its best and most active years were in the 1990´s. After a political shift and the public stop of the support of the coal production all mines around were closed one after the other. Last shift was on December 21st 2012 and on December 31st 2012 the mine was closed. 1560 workers were affected and partly reallocated to other mines.
The mine is inactive but not realy lost. The place is still guarded and has an entrance guard. Trucks and construction workers roam the place. The coal preparationplant is currently (August 2015) under demolition. Most of the neighboring buildings are stripped or cleared of machines already. The Waschkaue, the Lifting System, are still in place and impressive.
